As part of efforts to keep Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) safe for students, staff, visitors and other stakeholders, Management of KNUST has embarked on a campus-wide fumigation exercise.
The programme which began on Monday, 30th of March, 2020 will see all lecture halls, offices, laboratories, libraries, study areas and residential facilities for students fumigated. As of Monday, the 12th of April, 2020 all the aforementioned places including open spaces on the University campus had been fumigated.
This exercise has also, been extended to cover accredited private hostels to ensure that wherever KNUST students lived was free from rodents, pests and COVID-19.
Commenting on the importance of the fumigation exercise, the Head of University Relations, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe observed that it was a routine preventive measure adopted by the University to keep the University community safe from any form of infection including coronavirus.
He stressed that, KNUST has student population of about sixty-five thousand (65,000) and staff strength of over five thousand (5,000). The combine population of over seventy thousand (70,000) represents almost a constituency. As such, the University has a responsibility to ensure that each and every one within the University community is safe. He noted that, when even one person becomes infected with COVID-19 or any other infection, it could spark disaster for the whole University community.
He assured students, parents and other stakeholders of Managements constant vigilance to avert any form of disaster.
